In Support of the "F" Word
As Vanilla Ice said, "If there was a problem, Yo, I'll solve it!"
I'm an awesome problem solver. Give me a little time and I can come up with 100 different ways to fix something. This quality mostly serves me. Sometimes, it does not.
Last week, I was dealing with burnout. I was mentally, emotionally, and physically depleted. My instinct was to "fix" my problem.
I reached out to my naturopath about additional supplements I could take to give my nervous system a major dose of calm. I rolled on every essential oil I own. I cancelled my events so I could sleep. I set up an appointment to have my energy realigned.
In speaking to a very wise friend of mine, I told her that I wanted to establish more protective boundaries and more realistic expectations of myself. She agreed that those were good things to do, but before I started marching forward to "fix" everything, perhaps, I could take some time to just "be" and have some FUN!
Say, what??!!!! Is that what I was missing?! Some good o'le Vitamin F!
I realized that I was striving hard to not strive so hard!
I stopped right there in my tracks. I put down my book on Mindfulness. I turned off the 528 mHZ Healing Frequency soundtrack. I dumped out my cup of Kava Kava tea.
Don't get me wrong, all of those are important tools in my toolbox. But, what I needed at that moment was to stop trying so hard.
I jumped into bed, and turned on YouTube clips of the Tonight Show. I laughed for hours as Jimmy and celebrity contestants played Password and Charades.
Scott, Emma, and I went to the beach. We "double dog dared" each other to go under the water. We splashed and paddle boarded. We grilled out with family.
My sweet friend and I went to a farmers market as CUSTOMERS and had astrology readings. (Turns out, I'm a Capricorn/Leo/Aries!)
Scott, Emma, and I went to yoga in the park and did Tree Pose looking out onto the Lake.
The most amazing thing happened to me when I stopped striving.SO.HARD. I heard God lovingly say to me, "Are you ready to let me take over?" "Are you ready for me to lead you?" "I have a better way."
I felt that incredible peace I was longing for. I've been sleeping like a baby ever since.
Friends, in a culture that celebrates busyness, I encourage you to enjoy a few days of rest. I encourage you to move from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance. The opportunities will still be there even if you don't act on them immediately. (I'm speaking to myself here, too!)
This is our one sweet precious life. Let's have some FUN!
