Note from Jamie

I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.

My mentor recently wrote the following about me in a letter of recommendation:

"What's rare in Jamie is something I think of as 'wonder,' or as a properly open mind... Jamie puts understanding and wonder over being personally right or being tied to any one idea or ideology."

In a very eloquent way, he's saying that I'm curious and open to feedback. He said that this is a rare quality, so I started thinking about the more typical response to feedback: A tendency to explain and/or justify one's actions. And, I totally get it. I used to do that, too.

Here's why I stopped justifying and started listening.

  1. I want to learn from smart people and their hard won wisdom and experiences. Their insights will likely save me years of going at it on my own.
  2. I remind myself that people share feedback because they want me to succeed. I don't need to justify my actions and try to convince them that I'm awesome or worthy. They take time to teach me because they already believe in me.
  3. Sometimes, it takes courage to share feedback. I take it as a great compliment that someone trusts me enough to be brave.
  4. Listening saves me a lot of money. I don't have to learn the hard way. As a high-achiever, I know that it can be humbling to receive feedback. I encourage you to consider looking at feedback through another lens, though.

Feedback is a gift.

It's a gift from someone who believes in you and wants the best for you. So, "zip your lips" and listen! xo

Nourish Pick of the Week

I adore the message in our Power of She Gift Set:

"I see you, trying your best.

I see you showing up each day, even though you feel exhausted.

I see you working tirelessly, even when it feels never ending.

I see you doing an amazing job, even though you doubt yourself.

I see you, and you are more than enough."

How amazing it is to be seen. Consider gifting to a special woman in your life.
